Configure the Softphonewith VPN access

 

(PLEASE NOTE: The Softphone feature is primally for remote users and departments that use phone tree and shared mailbox services.)

This document assumes:

1.       That you have established remote connectivity to KCCD’s network with VPN access. If you don’t have remote VPN access, you will need to submit a Help Desk case at https://support.kccd.edu/

2.       You will also need the Mitel/ShoreTel Connect client software.  If you don’t have this software, you will need to submit a Help Desk case at https://support.kccd.edu/

 

Configure the Softphone

  1. Begin by launching the Mitel/ShoreTel Connect client.

Click on your name and extension in the upper left corner of the Mitel/ShoreTel Connect client.  This action will open your assignment settings.  See Figure 1 below.

  1. Click the radio button labeled “Softphone”. See Figure 1

  1. In the event your computer has more than one available microphone input, you will need to select the appropriate one utilizing the dropdown menu as seen in Figure 2.

Note: you will need to select the softphone feature every time you log in. The default is your desk phone. Callers will not be able to hear you if the softphone feature is not enabled and your desk phone is enabled while remote.

  1. To switch back and forth between taking calls on your softphone or your desk phone, simply select either the “Desk phone” or “Softphone” radio buttons.

 

Answer a Call with the Softphone

  1. When someone calls your extension or direct line while the softphone is enabled, you will see an Incoming Call show up in your Mitel/ShoreTel Connect Client as seen in Figure 3
  2. When an incoming call rings your extension, your computer will play a ringtone.
  3. To answer the incoming call, click on the green answer button as seen in Figure 3
  4. Once answered, you will be connected to the caller.

Also note: you can perform Transfer, Conference, and Hold actions on the active call through the Connect Client.

Place an Outbound call with the Softphone

  1. To place an outbound call while using the softphone, dial the number through the Mitel/ShoreTel Connect Client. See Figure 4
  2. Once the number is dialed, the line will begin ringing.

Also note: you can perform Transfer, Conference, and Hold actions on the active call through the Mitel/ShoreTel Connect Client.  You can also call internal extensions through the Mitel/ShoreTel Connect Client utilizing the same steps above.
